Johnna has acted as dramaturg on a number of new Canadian plays, both with Solo Collective and through associations with other theatres. She is currently, with Will Brooks, a Literary Manager for Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon, and also works on a freelance basis in this arena.
Most recently, Johnna provided dramaturgical support to playwright Kenneth Williams for the premieres of Gordon Winter (Persephone Theatre; Prairie Scene, National Arts Centre) and Café Daughter (Gwaandak Theatre, Whitehorse).
Other highlights of play development include Landscapes of the Dead by Aaron Bushkowsky, Pink Sugar by Natalie Meisner and Killjoy by David Mackay (nominated for Jessie Richardson Awards for Outstanding Original Script, Direction and Performance - awarded), The Fireplace by Anton Piatigorsky (subsequently read at Tarragon Theatre in Toronto), Dogbarked by James O'Shea (premiered by Persephone Theatre in 2003), Out of the Blue by Laurie Murdoch with the Gateway Theatre's SceneFirst series of staged readings, and Curtain Call by Blaine Newton for the Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre's SpringFest.
