A Canadian musical built around gospel.
It’s the 1930s, and rural Alberta is beset by drought, disappointment, and the beginnings of despair. The once-joyful members of a gospel quartet have been scattered. George and Dolly struggle with a growing marital crisis, and George’s loss of faith, and Sam keeps to his pool hall, while young Pastor Ernie tries to get traction with his flock.
Enter the Reverend Elroy Phillips, evangelist, with a new gospel quartet and “a truck full of meeting.” Old wounds are reopened as Elroy confronts the friends he abandoned years ago. Is the love of music enough to heal old wounds? Elroy might have to do some confessing of his own.
Featuring gospel favourites such as “Up Above My Head,” “Balm in Gilead,” “Go Down Moses”.
